The FMSP has a commitment to provide Teacher CPD for Key Stage 4 mathematics teachers to help improve the range of extension and enrichment activities that students experience in order that they will consider undertaking further study in mathematics.
Events are provided free of charge to KS4 teachers from state-funded schools, colleges and academies.
Following the fifth national series of FMSP KS4 Extension and Enrichment two-day courses held throughout 2016 and 2017, we are pleased to announce a one-day conference which will be held in Gateshead on Thursday 23rd March from 9.30am to 4pm.
During the conference there will be a wide choice of workshops led by teachers and other educators focusing on enriching the learning experience for Higher Tier GCSE students. Rob Eastaway will be the plenary speaker, aiming to inspire teachers with a range of maths activities and different ways to think about maths problems.
The conference is free and is open to all KS4 mathematics teachers in state-funded schools. Additionally, there is a small bursary of £200 per teacher available to schools towards release costs for up to 2 teachers.
Applications for places at the conference are now being accepted via an online application form. Teachers should complete the form and will then receive a Head Teacher confirmation form to complete and return to confirm their place.
Places for this conference are limited.
In 2016-2017, 20 courses were held across the country using the revamped version of this popular programme which targets a number of the new Higher Tier objectives.
The Further Mathematics Support Programme provides professional development and resources to support teachers in stretching and challenging Key Stage 4 students working towards the Higher Tier Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent).
Tailored to the new Higher GCSE, this course aims to:
The course consists of two separate face-to-face professional development days with some online support between the two sessions.
Delegates have the chance to obtain and try out a wide range of materials targeted specifically at Higher Tier GCSE students. Materials have either been developed by the FMSP or are freely available from other sources. The FMSP resources have been designed to consolidate understanding of some of the more challenging topics, to promote a deeper understanding of them and also to encourage students to recognise the links between and within topics. Teachers will also have opportunities to reflect on provision and pedagogy associated with Higher Tier GCSE students and to consider different ways in which individuals and groups can be appropriately challenged.
It is expected that delegates will have opportunities within their own schools to use a selection of the resources with students between the two course dates.
These courses are only for Key Stage 4 teachers working in state-funded schools, colleges and academies. Up to two teachers per establishment can apply for the courses.
It is relevant for any teacher who wishes to develop their Key Stage 4 teaching, whether they are in the first years of their career or have longer experience. Ideally, teachers will also be in a position to disseminate the materials more widely within their departments, but this is not a requirement of attendance.
These courses are funded by the DfE and are offered free of charge to KS4 teachers working in state-funded schools, colleges and academies. In addition, participants schools will be eligible to claim £300 per teacher to enable attendance.
If you have any further questions please e-mail [email protected]
Applications for the courses for 2016/2017 are now closed; we hope there will be another round of these popular courses starting in Autumn 2017.
Schools and Colleges can submit an online request to register with the Further Mathematics Support Programme. It is free to do so and there are many benefits.
